Year 11 students from Wayland Academy Norfolk were given a break from revision on Friday 13th May when the academy hosted a Pets As Therapy (PAT) Club which saw 10 dogs and their volunteer owners help students to relax ahead of their upcoming GCSE exams.

Fakenham Academy students successfully launch High Altitude Balloon into Near Space

After months of planning and preparation, and one postponement due to poor weather, a group of Fakenham Academy Norfolk students finally launched a High Altitude Balloon (HAB) into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere at the weekend – with FANHAB1 reaching a height of 26,533m.

The weather this weekend is glorious and for 5 Fakenham Academy Norfolk students this means that they will finally get to launch a High Altitude Balloon 33,000m into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere (after a previous planned launch in February had to be postponed because of poor weather).

City Academy Norwich student proudly unveils new rugby kit at Twickenham

Saturday was a day to remember for 14-year old City Academy Norwich student Gustas Ganiprauskas, from Norwich, when he had the honour of wearing the Academy’s new rugby kit on the Twickenham pitch before kick-off at the RBS 6 Nations England v Ireland match.

Gustas was given this honour thanks to kit manufacturer Canterbury and England Rugby. He was selected to represent the Academy because of his attitude, attendance and effort in PE and after-school rugby.

Paralympic skier puts Wayland Junior pupils through their paces

GB Paralympic skier and adventurer Sean Rose was the special guest at Wayland Junior Academy Watton this week, offering inspiration and encouragement as he led them in a sponsored circuit challenge.

Sean, who is a double winter Paralympian with 5 World Cup medals, 7 British titles and over 30 international medals, oversaw the pupils during their sponsored fitness session through which the academy is aiming to raise money for new PE equipment.   

City Academy Norwich student to reveal school rugby shirt at Twickenham

Gustas Ganiprauskas from City Academy Norwich will represent the academy on the pitch at Twickenham ahead of the RBS 6 Nations England v Ireland match on Saturday 27 February.

Gustas was one of 100 other youngsters selected to represent their respective schools across the country, as part of England Rugby’s All Schools programme - an initiative to increase rugby participation in secondary state schools. 

American diplomat visits City Academy Norwich to hear from Year 11 students

Students from City Academy Norwich have contributed their views on some of the big issues facing the world today as part of a major “listening exercise” being undertaken with British young people by the Embassy of the United States of America.

Tim Gerhardson, Deputy Cultural Attaché with the US Embassy, visited City Academy Norwich on Tuesday 24th February, spending an hour with 23 of the academy’s Year 11 students.

Students fundraise to say “thank you” to Pets As Therapy

Over the last 18 months a cocker spaniel named Dora has become a valued part of the school community at Wayland Academy Norfolk, helping students to improve their reading confidence as a weekly reading companion through the Pets As Therapy Read2Dogs programme. 

Norwich Basketball League success for City Academy Norwich

The Year 9 Basketball Team at City Academy Norwich has won the Norwich Basketball League in stylish fashion. They managed to win all their fixtures home and away beating teams from Notre Dame, Aylsham, Broadland, Sprowston and Dereham Neatherd.
