County Cup rugby success for Fakenham Academy Norfolk’s Year 11 boys

Fakenham Academy Norfolk’s Year 11 rugby team have triumphed in the County Cup final, with a 41-5 victory over CNS.  Mr Savage, PE teacher at Fakenham Academy Norfolk, writes:

The Fakenham Academy Year 11 rugby team made it to the County Cup Final for the third year in a row, having played CNS in each one. The first ended in a draw, the second Fakenham narrowly lost and the third...well, all is explained below.

Fakenham Academy students prepare to launch High Altitude Balloon into Near Space

Five Fakenham Academy Norfolk students are closely monitoring weather forecasts, poring over maps of the region, and performing meticulous calculations – all in their own time after school – as they prepare to launch a High Altitude Balloon 33,000m into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere.

Fakenham Academy Norfolk students achieve Oxbridge interviews

During the last couple of weeks five Fakenham College students have attended interviews at Oxbridge. It is an immense achievement even to be invited for interview, the students will have to wait until the new year to find out if they have been successful in gaining a place.

City Academy Norwich students attend UEA student Conference

Several Year 10 and 11 students from City Academy Norwich attended a conference on Monday 14th December to give them an insight into being a student at the University of East Anglia. They had the chance to choose from a range of interactive academic sessions from subjects across the Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Health and Social Sciences.   This gave the students the opportunity to find out more about the subjects they are interested in and experience university style teaching.

Attleborough Academy in top 20pc of schools on key progress measure

Interim figures from the Department for Education and Ofsted show that Attleborough Academy Norfolk is among the top 20pc of schools in England for the progress made by its students.

The initial (unvalidated) RAISEonline report for the academy indicates that in 2015 the academy is in the 19th percentile of all schools in England for the progress its students made between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4.

Finley’s winning design unveiled on estate agent’s Minis

A Year 8 student from Attleborough Academy Norfolk, Finley Williams, has won a competition organised by estate agents abbotFox to come up with a new design for its fleet of Minis – and Finley got to see the results first-hand as the new-look Minis were unveiled this week at the academy.      

Earlier this year Norwich-based estate agents abbotFox launched a rebranding competition in which pupils from Norfolk schools were asked to come up with their own design for the abbotFox Mini.

Dora helps build reading confidence

A group of students from Wayland Academy Norfolk have increased their reading confidence thanks, in large part, to their unusual reading companion – Dora, a 4 year old cocker spaniel, who visits us each week as part of the Read2Dogs programme run by the charity Pets As Therapy.

Mighty Oakus goes for £3400 at auction!!!!!!

After a scorching summer full of fiery fun the GoGoDragons! said goodbye to our fine city by raising £369,500 for children’s charity Break. As an academy we raised over £8500 for Break and we are very proud of the staff and students that supported the campaign.

Fakenham Academy Norfolk rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted

Fakenham Academy Norfolk has seen 2 years of strong progress recognised by Ofsted with a rating of ‘Good’ following a visit by inspectors to the Transforming Education in Norfolk (TEN) Group academy on 11th-12th June. 

The judgement signals a swift turnaround for the academy, which prior to joining the TEN Group (in October 2013) had received a Grade 4 when last inspected in March 2013.
