Year 11 students from Wayland Academy Norfolk were given a break from revision on Friday 13th May when the academy hosted a Pets As Therapy (PAT) Club which saw 10 dogs and their volunteer owners help students to relax ahead of their upcoming GCSE exams.

Fakenham Academy students successfully launch High Altitude Balloon into Near Space

After months of planning and preparation, and one postponement due to poor weather, a group of Fakenham Academy Norfolk students finally launched a High Altitude Balloon (HAB) into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere at the weekend – with FANHAB1 reaching a height of 26,533m.

The weather this weekend is glorious and for 5 Fakenham Academy Norfolk students this means that they will finally get to launch a High Altitude Balloon 33,000m into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere (after a previous planned launch in February had to be postponed because of poor weather).

Paralympic skier puts Wayland Junior pupils through their paces

GB Paralympic skier and adventurer Sean Rose was the special guest at Wayland Junior Academy Watton this week, offering inspiration and encouragement as he led them in a sponsored circuit challenge.

Sean, who is a double winter Paralympian with 5 World Cup medals, 7 British titles and over 30 international medals, oversaw the pupils during their sponsored fitness session through which the academy is aiming to raise money for new PE equipment.   

Students fundraise to say “thank you” to Pets As Therapy

Over the last 18 months a cocker spaniel named Dora has become a valued part of the school community at Wayland Academy Norfolk, helping students to improve their reading confidence as a weekly reading companion through the Pets As Therapy Read2Dogs programme. 

County Cup rugby success for Fakenham Academy Norfolk’s Year 11 boys

Fakenham Academy Norfolk’s Year 11 rugby team have triumphed in the County Cup final, with a 41-5 victory over CNS.  Mr Savage, PE teacher at Fakenham Academy Norfolk, writes:

Five Fakenham Academy Norfolk students are closely monitoring weather forecasts, poring over maps of the region, and performing meticulous calculations – all in their own time after school – as they prepare to launch a High Altitude Balloon 33,000m into the Near Space region of the earth’s atmosphere.

During the last couple of weeks five Fakenham College students have attended interviews at Oxbridge. It is an immense achievement even to be invited for interview, the students will have to wait until the new year to find out if they have been successful in gaining a place.

Attleborough Academy in top 20pc of schools on key progress measure

Interim figures from the Department for Education and Ofsted show that Attleborough Academy Norfolk is among the top 20pc of schools in England for the progress made by its students.

The initial (unvalidated) RAISEonline report for the academy indicates that in 2015 the academy is in the 19th percentile of all schools in England for the progress its students made between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4.
